A cost prediction model for machine operation in multi-field production systems Scientia Agricola
Sopegno,Alessandro; Busato,Patrizia; Berruto,Remigio; Romanelli,Thiago Libório.
ABSTRACT Capacity planning in agricultural field operations needs to give consideration to the operational system design which involves the selection and dimensioning of production components, such as machinery and equipment. Capacity planning models currently onstream are generally based on average norm data and not on specific farm data which may vary from year to year. In this paper a model is presented for predicting the cost of in-field and transport operations for multiple-field and multiple-crop production systems. A case study from a real production system is presented in order to demonstrate the model’s functionalities and its sensitivity to parameters known to be somewhat imprecise. It was shown that the proposed model can provide operation cost...

Energy demand in citrus production under varied operational efficiency values REA
Franco Junior,Nelson C.; Milan,Marcos; Romanelli,Thiago L..
Citrus orchards are very important in Brazil, especially in São Paulo State, where occupy an area of 600,000 ha approximately. To identify sustainability degree of citrus production system, an energy analysis allows evaluating efficiency of direct and indirect applied inputs. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate citrus production system under energetic point of view, in which invested energy is paid back with citrus production; being compared within three scenarios for operational field efficiency. As result, by sensitivity analysis was determined that fuel was the main energy demander, followed by pesticides and fertilizers. In operational work capacity analysis, all combinations between efficiency (minimum, typical and maximum) and yield levels became...

Exploring Mechanization Degree and Capacity in Malaysia’s Oil Palm Plantations CIGR Journal
El Pebrian, Darius; Ak. Mohiddin, Dk. Norhajijah.
Development of mechanization is a crucial element in oil palm plantations in Malaysia since its significant role in reducing of highly dependence on manual workers. Nonetheless, the recent mechanization degree and capacity in oil palm plantations in this country is still rarely studied.  This study aims to determine the mechanization degree and capacity in oil palm plantations in Malaysia. Determining mechanization degree and mechanization capacity were computed based on the available secondary data from a recently survey on 4541 oil palm estates in Malaysia.  The findings showed that average mechanization degree and capacity of field operations in Malaysia’s oil palm plantations were 10.88% and 11.04%, respectively, and considered as low when compared to...

The characteristics of the repair and maintenance costs distribution of rice combine harvester in Malaysian paddy fields CIGR Journal
El Pebrian, Darius; Ismail, Mohammad Izwan.
The main objective of this study is to characterize the repair and maintenance (R&M) costs distribution of rice combine harvesters in the Malaysian paddy field.  The survey method through face-to -face interviews was used to collect the data and relevant information from the owners of sampled combine harvester at rice granaries in Langkawi and Kota Setar districts of Kedah state, in Northern Region of Peninsular Malaysia. The data and information collected includes annual R&M costs and activities, components to be replaced, and their portion of the total R&M costs. The findings showed that the mean R&M costs distribution of combine harvester during off-season was 3.92 times higher than the on-season. Repairing pump bush track, wheel,...
